Hundreds evacuated after chemical spill

Five hundred people were evacuated and almost 20 treated by paramedics after a chemical spill in Melbourne's north today closed two schools, factories and emptied nearby homes.

Four students from Lakeside Secondary College, 12 workers from the Visy Board factory, an elderly male resident and two truck drivers were taken to hospital after a gas leak at the Visy site in Plateau Street, Reservoir, about 9.30am.

All were in a stable condition after suffering breathing difficulties.

Lakeside College, Fawkner Primary School, the factory and homes were evacuated as 45 firefighters dealt with the leak.

Thirty people were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade Commander Glenn Brown said a delivery tanker had pumped the wrong chemical into a holding tank, setting off a chemical reaction at the paper factory.

He said 2500 litres of sodium hyperchloride, a bleaching product, had been mixed with aluminium chlorate, causing gas to leak from the tank.

Mr Brown said police had evacuated the area 1.5 kilometres downwind and 400 metres upwind of the factory, and 35 officers cordoned off the area's perimeter.

Intensive care paramedic Lindsay Bent said paramedics arrived to find a number of people suffering breathing problems and irritation. A police spokeswoman said hundreds of people had been asked to leave the area.

Mr Brown said the chemical reaction had stopped after the tank was flooded with water and a neutralising agent.

The site was deemed safe just after 2.30pm. WorkSafe investigators are at the scene.

SCHOOL students in Melbourne's north were evacuated and people were treated for breathing problems after a factory chemical leak today.
A Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) spokesman said crews were called to the Visy paper factory in Reservoir, about 9.40am, after a report of a delivery truck leaking sodium hypochlorite, believed to be a bleaching product.

Students and staff at the Lakeside Secondary College, opposite the factory, were evacuated and some students complained of headaches, the MBF spokesman said.

Twelve factory workers suffered breathing problems and were treated at the scene by paramedics, a Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

She said they were in a stable condition and was not aware if anyone had been taken to hospital.

Tournament of Minds Australasian and Pacific Finals 2008

With the stunning victory in August in the State final of Tournament of Minds, the social science champions of Victoria were off to the Australasian and Pacific championships to represent their state proudly against the best from around the country last Friday and Saturday. The event started with the opening ceremony at the majestic town hall where the students of Lakeside were formally introduced as the Victorian representatives. The students were then off on the great Melbourne discovery where they were given a list of different challenges to complete around Melbourne racing against the clock. After an intense and tiring work the Lakeside crew completed the race in style with slurpees in hand.

On the Saturday, they found themselves back at the familiar surroundings of La Trobe University, where they were set another difficult social science challenge entitled Dream On. The students went on and demonstrated a highly intellectual solution to the problem which dramatized the world where there was no equality and the struggle we face to gain basic human rights. People were judged and classified by the letter their surnames began with. They highlighted the oppression and discrimination still found in the world by substituting race, creed, financial status or religious discrimination with the letter classification. The performance from all 7 members was outstanding. Jack Tran and Jess Johnson were magnificent and the oppressive "Z's" continually demoting Chris Lewis' character of "Aa". Chris' stunning performance was well supported by Jack Aqualina whose depiction of "Bb" highlighted the class system in work and that those who are a little better off still have a difficult life. Kathryn Norris-King's portal of the wife of "Aa" gave a real sense of the peril faced in the lives of the oppressed "Aa", she also was well supported by a rising star at lakeside in the form of Paige Fararas who as the sick daughter of "Aa" was able to fulfill the dream that her father had gave up his life for. This was all topped up by another entertaining performance from the very witty Jeffery Mann who represented the middle class as "K" showing how difficult it is for the middle class to support those less fortunate than them while trying to appease those who hold the power in society.

The completion of the presentations highlighted why out of 30,000 schools from around the country who participated in Tournament of Minds why these schools were the cream of the crop. Lakeside Secondary College may not have gained a medal in this competition but what they did do was make their school and their state proud. A special acknowledgement needs to go out to Mr. Paul McDonald for his tireless effort over the years in organizing the T.O.M participation from Lakeside.

From all of the Lakeside family we would like to congratulate the magnificent 7 T.O.M's on this herculean effort they took on the whole country and even though they didn't win they will forever be known as champions in the corridors of Lakeside Secondary College.

INZAI JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND TEA CEREMONY

The students arrived to Inzai for their first of two days at Inzai Junior High classes. They were distributed into different homerooms after being told the school rules, which were not unlike the ones back home other than the fact that they were they were not allowed to chew gum and food is to be eaten at lunch only in the allocated time. Ok so the second rule is slightly different, however lunch is catered for every student in the school and that eliminated the excess rubbish that plagues the schools in Australia. The students attended different classes, which included traditional Japanese calligraphy, mathematics, and also English classes, thankfully the kids from lakeside excelled in the English classes. After the delicious school lunch we all hoped into different cars down to the local community library to experience a traditional tea ceremony, due to my bad knees they catered for us by having us sit on chairs which made the whole gang pleased that they didn’t have to spend the hour kneeling. The tea ceremony was one of real structure and tradition where every movement, every position of the utensils had to be precise. The ceremony started with a really sweet cake slice to help off set the taste of the tea. Following the cake, which the students hesitated in eating to begin with due to the different smell and texture, we were all presented with a bowl of hot green tea. The bowl was placed in the left hand and rotated clockwise twice with the right hand, the presenter then bows and hands the bowl to the recipient who rotates it again clockwise twice and drinks from it then rotates it back before handing it back. The tea was very bitter however had an alluring taste which was difficult to describe. The students then had an opportunity to make the tea themselves and present it to a fellow class member. The students then asked questions of the ladies and presented them with the traditional Australian gift of a little plastic Koala. The students returned back to school to spend the rest of the evening with their host families as the staff got ready for a staff dinner that night at a traditional …………. Italian Restaurant!

JAPANESE ITALIAN FOOD AND PACHINKO GO! GO! GO!

We arrived to a quaint little Italian restaurant not to far from the school and the area we were living in. Upon arriving we were besieged by the amount of food that was presented to us and the diversity of the Italian cuisine on offer. All types of pasta, risotto using Japanese mushrooms, fresh pizza and the vino was flowing! Even with the difficulties of the language barrier the party hit high gear when the phrase book was pulled out and my broken Japanese skills were put to the test. This led to an impromptu Japanese lesson where each sound in the Japanese alphabet was made clear to me. We laughed and ate till we could have no more. A stunning meal which brought together two cultures of educators in the common love of fine dining! After the end of the night I spotted what is known as a Pachinko hall called ZUES SLOTS. After viewing Weird Al Yankovic’s “Complete Al” where he visited Japan and was mesmerized by Pachinko I just had to see it for myself. Pachinko is the Japanese version of the pokies. It consists of these metal balls pinging through a machine, I wish I could explain it in more detail however that is all I know about Pachinko. Mrs. Nakamura and I enter the hall to discover that the Pachinko hall had no Pachinko only the slots which were interesting in themselves. Unlike the pokies here the slots in Japan consist of 3 buttons and computer screens that showed Japanese cartoons, which was the theme of each machine. You put your cash in to receive tokens. I couldn’t figure out how many tokens you get for your yen so I just placed 1000 Yen in the machine to receive a handful of tokens. I made my way to the speed racer machine (or otherwise known as GO! GO! GO! in Japan.) after a few spins and not knowing what was going on I started to see the tokens disappear at a quick rate. Just as I was coming to grips with the fact that the 1000 Yen was gone, we were grabbed by one of the staff and told to check out the lucky 777 machine on the other side of the room, which we did. Again putting coins in and pressing the buttons was my ultimate strategy, then to my surprise the machine made a weird sound and this little blue light came up, not knowing what was happening I called over one of the attendees who smiled and started hitting buttons, to my surprise it seemed that I was winning. So as any person in this situation would do I started to hit more buttons to the sound of buzzers and whistles going off. Once the excitement of the commotion had ended I hit the cash in button and watched the coins come flowing out of the machine. I went to cash them in as I figured I might as well end while I was ahead. The tokens were placed in a counting machine that spat out a receipt. I took that over to the counter and I was told to pick a can of drink. The first thing that went through my mind was after all that noise and 375 odd tokens I win a can of mountain dew? That can’t be right, can it? Well it wasn’t I got another drink and a Twinkie. Oh and also these little red boxes we were marched out to the back were the boxes were slipped into a deposit box were a minute later I was handed a crisp 5000 Yen note and a 500 Yen coin. Some how I was able to turn my 1000 Yen into 5500 Yen, how I have no Idea and it will be another one of those life mysteries that I think will never be solved, with that my career as a professional Pachinko and Japanese Slots player ended. Well after such a big win where do you think I would head to next you may ask? DISNEY LAND OF COURSE!!!!! Which Ironically happened to be our next destination, talk about timing?

WHEN WE HIT JAPAN!!! Post 4

Mt. Fuji

Well it was now time to make way to our group overnight stay at Mt. Fuji. This was a real experience as the bus ride was a good 3 hours long. The first stop was at a roadhouse, which looked like a huge shopping mall. We had lunch at the main restaurant at the hall, which had a huge glass cabinet at the front with every meal available encased in perplex. I pointed at a seafood and rice dish which when it arrived it looked like it also was covered in perplex. Thankfully the taste was superb as all the food here in Japan has been. The trip continued to wind up to a stop where we went and visited one of the spectacular waterfalls that are found here in Japan, 180 steps later and the view was one of true majesty.

Tired and weary when we first saw a glimpse of Mt. Fuji the excitement was palpable. We make our way to the hotel and get ready for dinner. The students were all excited about being on a sleepover and were a little too jumpy, however when they were asked to turn the lights out at 10 pm they did so. The staff had an opportunity to let off a little steam however I decided to get an early night. Getting up at 5:00 AM I was able to see Mt. Fuji Burst through the night in what can only be called awe-inspiring. After sitting there and watching the sun come up I went back to sleep. A quick breakfast later the Lakeside crew went on a walk around the town visiting all the little shops and stalls. We saw a serene Japanese garden, tasted the freshest spring water ever and returned to a hearty Japanese barbecue.

We made the long trip back up north to Inzai and experienced first hand the dread of peek hour traffic in Japan. Exhausted the students were dispersed to their host families ready for a day of school at Inzai Junior High School.

WHEN WE HIT JAPAN!!! Post 3

INZAI JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Red eyed and wet we arrive to Inzai to drop off our bags. Were taken out for lunch before the assembly and where would you take 14 people from Australia for their first meal in Japan? Why to the local Italian restaurant of course. The food in Japan has a real quality that is difficult to explain, oh and restaurants like to display their dishes in a glass cabinet. The restaurant had some of the most famous Italian masterpieces carefully wallpapered all over the place. Also Japan is one giant comic book with everything explained in little diagrams that anyone could understand.

Assembly at Inzai displayed a level of respect and courtesy from the students that would make any principle in Australia enviously. We proudly marched into the hall with the Australian national anthem played by the School band. The Harmony of the students singing the school song was phenomenal. I can safely say that I understood at least half of the Assembly, gifts were exchanged and greetings by the Lakeside crew were delivered in broken Japanese however the effort was commendable. The students were treated like rock stars where a simple thumbs up from one of the boys would get the girls at Inzai jumping up and down with excitement. After the assembly the students met their host students and went off to experience life as a Japanese student. The average class size at Inzai is about 32 students. Inzai is also the school that the Japanese pole-vaulting champion attended.

4 pm couldn’t of come quick enough, as it was now a good day and a half we have been up without getting any sleep. The students and teachers were distributed amongst their host families to get a little rest, have a long overdue shower or bath, unpack and get ready for the welcome dinner, which was the official opening to the Lakeside – Inzai Exchange.

The official opening of the exchange program, the students looked superb in their kimonos and the host families were beaming with pride as they showed off their guests to the others around. We called a COMPAI – which is a Japanese Cheers, and toasted the safe arrival and the beginning of the 20th year of thf]]e Inzai – Lakeside exchange. There were more speeches made and we shared a spread of tasty Japanese cuisine. Both schools represented the official gifts and the families with their guests were introduced to the crowd. The highlight was the English speech that was given by the two young boys in grade 2 and 5. The night was concluded by the Lakeside group wearily singing the national anthem of Australia, Waltzin Matilda and I am, you are Austalian, followed by the Inzai school song. To conclude the night I bought what has at this stag1e turned out to be the most important purchase to date. A Japanese phrase book. With an early start tomorrow for our trip to Mt. Fuji we all headed home for a well earned sleep.

Day 2: Narita Airport and Narita Temple

Surprise, Surprise I was able to get a good 2 hours of uncomfortable sleep on the flight, To wake up finding a majority of the Lakeside crew still dreaming of their upcoming adventure. The flight was extremely turbulent, however most of us were able to manage this well. (Not all were able to keep their food down, but that is not my story to tell.) I was fortunate enough to watch an amazing Korean film entitled “A man who was Superman” This was a true story of a man who spent the last years of his life thinking he was Superman who had a piece of kryptonite stuck in his brain making him powerless. That is all I will say about the film but the reveal brought a tear to my eye.

We land in the cleanest place on earth; I was stunned at how tidy the airport was. My previous experiences when it came to exiting an airport consisted of a mad scramble to collect your bag, which took at least 30 minutes. Not so here, we scan in our fingerprints and by the time we get to the carousel to collect our bags, amazingly they were all their neatly waiting for us. (I snuck in a photo not realising that pictures are not allowed in the customs area) Walking out we meet up with representatives of Inzai Junior High to greet us at the gates. Apparently no one told the Japanese that it is meant to be summer in this part of the world as the rain started to drizzle around us.

The courtesy of our Japanese hosts is one of true love, knowing that our first destination was the temple they stopped and bought each and everyone of us umbrellas, really nice umbrellas. (I think I might take it home and give it to my mother for her birthday.) We arrived at the temple and I was blown away by the majesty of the temple and it’s surrounding. The main temple was at the top of what felt like a thousand steps with the water trickling down gave it more of a regal feel. The sight of this ancient architectural masterpiece made me feel a sense of wanting to see the holy Coptic monasteries of Egypt. I took a time out while the students entered the temple; I have the upmost respect for the culture that was shown however I didn’t feel that I could enter a temple that worships another god.

Standing at the top of the steps peering down at what looked like a daunting decent in the humid rains, a victory for common sense prevailed, as I was able to take the lift down. (Also I learnt that when in doubt add an o sound to the word you are attempting to communicate to the locals.) At the base of the temple again we as a group were able to see the small souvenir stalls. This is where the Egyptian blood kicked in and the bartering began, in a mighty battle of wits and determination between the shopkeeper who only spoke Japanese and the Egyptian barging king from Craigieburn (who at this stage has mastered the phrase “Domi Arigato” or Thank you. (not something that needs to be said in the beginning of a negotiation) I was able to talk down the price of 4 traditional Japanese spinning drums from the asking price of 1600 yen to an impressive 1300-yen to celebrate my victory with a taste of my first Dr. Pepper in a long time. JAPAN HOME OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST SOFTDRINKS!

WHEN WE HIT JAPAN!!!

Koniciwa……………! Mr. Sidhom in the land of the Rising Sun

Well it has finally arrived the day that I travel to a foreign land for the first time since returning from Fiji in those life-changing days back in the summer of 2005. Japan is a destination that I have always wanted to visit, it is a land of deep history and culture while also being at the forefront of the worlds future endeavours.

The opportunity arose when my school that I work at was organising the trip to their sister school which occurs every two years, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t let go.

Day 1: Melbourne Airport

Arriving at the Airport with a real feeling of apprehension however I was amazed at the efficiency of the good people working at Melbourne airport. We went through customs and onto the flight with little problems. The problems started as soon as we boarded the flight. An arrogant flight staff that were rude and constantly confronted the passengers with everything except a smile made the 7-hour flight difficult. (It doesn’t help when they talk to each other in their own tongue in front of the passengers) Occupying a seat near the back of the flight made up for this, as I was able to enjoy the really awesome in flight entertainment that was “On Demand!” I could watch what I wanted when I wanted. A few hours later I was joined by some of the boys where they showed me that my PSP skills have lapsed immensely over the years. (My revenge will come though!)

About to land in Malaysia, please turn off all electrical devices and put your tray tables up and have your seat in the upright position. Why is it that every time I land people constantly disregards the fact that the seat belt sign is still lit and get up to collect their bags before the plane had stopped moving?

Day 1: MISSADVENTURE IN MALAYSIA…….

I’m the last one off the flight and saw that the students and other staff had disappeared. I see that there is a line of people waiting to go through some gate so naturally I patently join the line. Slowly moving through the security area and I pass over my ticket to the confusion of the staff.
“Where are you going?” quires the airline staff,
I reply “Japan” which draws a blank stare, followed with a look of confusion.
“Ah, this is the flight to Sydney…….” Explained the really annoyed airline staff member.
“OH Ok, um how do I get to Japan then?” I asked.
He points me back through the security gate and I sheepishly made my way out to the emptiness of the airport terminal.




I move out and the first thing that goes though my mind is “Where is everyone?”
I decided to make my way to the terminal that our connecting flight to Japan was boarding at. This consisted of a train ride across the airport and 4 travelators down, only to find that there was no one there and that all the cool shops were back to where I was initially. So back on the train and a good walk around the majestic KL airport looking for the gang. I hear a bellow from above of “SIDHOM!” Where I finally found the group having a bite to eat and realising that they have changed way too much money into Malaysian currency for the hour and a half that we were at the airport.

Third times a charm on the train between terminals (I could of rode that thing all day!) and we board a half full flight to Japan which now consists of the polar opposite of cabin crew as they couldn’t be friendlier, a pink panther later (really Guava juice) and we were on our way to Japan.

Now I wish I had an amazing story to tell about the flight to Japan but at the time of writing this other than myself the whole Lakeside gang are fast asleep. I’ve never been one to sleep on flights and with such an array of shows and movies I doubt it that will change for this leg of the trip. (Although anything can happen)

Buffy Challenge Post 38: Season 4: Episode 22

 

Restless

Ah what a fitting title to end this season as I'm sure that there was a many Buffy fan that would of been very restless throughout this season. Also considering I'm about to fly out to Japan for the first time I'm quite restless also.

What no cold opening? that is strange oh well straight into the credits we go. The end of all that happen seems to see Riley off Scott  free "Blackmailing the Government in a patriotic way!" Xander cooks........ Popcorn! Way to go Xander. And were watching an action show where the main characters are sitting around watching movies. They don't even last through the FBI warning.

First up Willow, into her mind and she is dreaming of Terra and her cat. She is writing a tale on her back in what looks to be Greek. If I had the time I could try to read it sort of (know some of the letters) Oz is still in her mind and it seems like Xander is also on her mind. (I don't wanna know what type of spell Xander will do by himself!) Harmony and Buffy are now in a play, With Giles as a director. Death of a Salesman with a cowboy and Willow has no idea what is going on. OH Creepy Cheese! that can't be good! "All the world is a stage......" I bet that the actors on this show must love getting dressed up and doing wacky overacting! I LOVE THE LION, WITCH AND THE WARDROBE!!!!!! although we don't get to hear her book report as willow is being attacked.

Now we move to Xander, who dreams about being seduced by JOYCE??? Well hello Mrs. Robinson. I find it hard to pee with an audience also, especially when they are taking notes! (I hate it when that happens!) Spike the Watcher, another spin-off that didn't work out huh? Buffy is playing in a sand box which looks like she is in a beach and the weirdness keeps happening. So Watcher 101 "How to go high on a swing" Nothing is worse than really bad blue screen effects but I guess that is what they are going for so it works! (UH, just a little distracted here with Xander's vision of Willow and Terra. Even though it is concidered placid in today's world but back then a lesbian kiss is too edgy to show on t.v) More creepy cheese. The colour is now gone wackey and Giles has gone all french. I can picture Whedon now putting this episode together with an evil grin and thinking how much it's going to trip everyone out. Now we've gone all Apocalypse now! The return of Synder in this dream is cool! I missed him. The creepy monster that haunted Willow is now chasing Xander and he is in a loop of some sort.

Giles turn! He is hypnotizing Buffy and sees her as the daughter that he always wanted. At the carnival and they are going nuts with the effects, heat vision and the black and white Spike poses are cool! More cheese! The continue seamless movement between scenes is awesome and Anya the comedian is so cool! "Silence or you'll miss the humorous conclusion!" Giles is now breaking out a rock beat that is trying to figure out what is going on, it has something to do with composite Buffy from that Awful double episode previously. Whoa he took Giles brain to add to the heart he took from Xander.

Buffy's turn. Close up shot and Buffy is all alone looking for her gang. She finds her Mother living in the wall is it a thing in her subconscious that she has shut out her mum? Now Riley is in charge and looking to take over the world. A bag full of mud and Buffy is all alone again. I wonder if Joss thought to himself I wonder how many different camera angles and effects I can get into this one episode? The constants are Terra, cheese and a demon woman. So it seems she was the first slayer.

That was without the shadow of a doubt the weirdest episode of any show I have ever seen! I have no Idea what was going on but all I know is I LOVED IT!!!!!! I could write a thesis on the different camera angles and effects that were used in each shot and the meaning behind them. This is the first time that it was the cinematography that has won me over as I still don't understand what the episode was about and I don't care it was just wonderful to watch! So quirky and fun!

10/10 - For the sheer pleasure of all the rules being broken and the first episode I want to watch back with the commentary on to see what was going through Joss' mind when he wrote and directed this little Gem! (thankfully this was a wonderful way to end a mediocre season!)

Well SIONARA CHALLENGERS! I'm off to Japan in the morning and I'll see you all in 3 weeks time where we move onto season 5 (where I hope there will be less secret army guys and more of a stronger storyline!)

Buffy Challenge Post 37: Season 4: Episode 20 - 21

 

The Yoko Factor and Primeval

General what's his name is giving feedback to what is happing to his boss.  Yeah who needs a soldier that thinks? Oh never underestimate Buffy as she is not jlust a girl. Spike knows this and lets Robo-demon know. (still think he is a dodgy villain.)

Is it me or does this Adam guy just talk a lot of Crap, the Tommy Robbins of demons! Why doesn't anyone like Xanders taste in clothes. Well Riley is giving us the 30 second wrap of the Buffy and Angel relationship. Riley feels emasculated about Angel. 

Where have you been hiding all this talent there Giles? Spike is right, for a watcher Giles doesn't do a very good job with his peripheral vision. Giles is right not to trust Spike. He is great when it comes to planting the seed of doubt in peoples minds. Is Willow getting a Cat such a good idea seeing she has Amy the rat also as a pet? Willow is starting to feel estranged from Buffy again. Hey I think I use to have a pair of parachute pants like that when I was a kid!

It seems we missed a bit of a plot point that was clearly covered in Angel but this is the Buffy challenge not the Buffy spin off challenge. (yes April, I know I promised I'll watch it.) Xander is joining the Army? Spike is playing everyone against each other really well!

Buffy gets knocked out by Robo-Demon who also kills Riley's buddy and Spike now gets into Willows mind. The initiative is struggling to get things under control and Riley meet Angel, I'm sure you too are going to get along like a house on fire. Angel meets up with Buffy and once again they are talking about something that we missed from Angel. Riley has the Gun pointed at Angel (nice camera angle btw) I thought Riley would know that a bullet won't kill him. Now I'm lost....... I guess I'll find out when I watch Angel season 1.

Spike gives us a history lesson about the Beatles and Yoko Ono. This episode is SLOW!!! So much talking, and nothing happening, Snooze feast '08. (Another DC reference Hanging out the Batcave with Crusty old Alfred!) Drunk Giles Rule! Spike's plan has finally come off. They are fighting against each other. It's official Terra is Willow's Girlfriend to the surprise of Xander. Buffy walks out on her friends and Riley meets up with ADAM? HUH? TO BE CONTINUED? HUH?

The old school house has seen better days. Adam has activated the chip that Walsh has implanted into Riley and has control over him. Chips all around and who ordered the party pack. Hung over Giles doesn't rule as much as drunk Giles.

Is it me or wasn't the scar on the other side of Buffy's forehead in the last episode. I really do love the innocence of Anya and how she keeps things really simple. Xander doesn't realize how lucky he is sometimes. Adam's master plan is coming to fruition and  I couldn't care less. Zombie Walsh and Frankenstein Forest are just creepy and not in a good way. They figure out that Spike has been the splinter between them and it still has a real stench of things. Big shock that Spike is working with the bad guys. Xander I miss the Mayor!

Xander finally came up with a great idea without knowing it. Buffy walks into an ambush and Spike doesn't get what he wants and runs. You know the Coronal has asked a question that we have wanted to know, "What kinds of freaks are you?" Robo-Demon lets the monsters out of the cage so he can start the harvest. We have a Demon Vs Soldier battle royal on our hands. 

Buffy gets ambushed and Riley does some "Do it yourself" surgery to remove the chip in him. Willow, Giles and Xander are envoking a spell to give Buffy their essences. Adam has now got a machine gun arm???? this is just getting wielded and weirder. Composite Buffy defeats Adam and everything is happy again. Oh wait there was the little matter of Spike to deal with. So the suits in Washington are giving the tale of the tape and terminates the project and we will never ever hear from it again. (Thankfully!)

THAT WAS CRAP!!!!!! Thankfully there is a prolog to save this season. I'll have to get to that tomorrow as this double episode fried my brain!!!!!

Buffy Challenge: Post 36: Season 4: Episodes 18 - 19

Where the wild things are

I wonder if this episode has something to do with the famous children's novel? Don't think so, We start off with a tea party...........

Wait wrong show, we start off with Buffy and Riley fighting off monsters and Vampires, it seems that Buffy is getting some kind of perverse pleasure out of this battle, Vampires and Demons tagging up? that can't be good? right? Um guys? hello? there is a show to get on with and you two need to have a cold shower!

Spooky music up the stairs to Buffy and Riley in bed means there is going to be some sort of trouble happening around the corner. Oh the horror, Riley goes to the bathroom! Xander works as an Ice Cream truck driver! Anya is an Animal, she doesn't comprehend that a relationship is more than a physical thing. Oh that is not going to help business Xander!

Robo-Demon is rallying the demons and vampires together all hell is about to break loose so what's the best thing to do? Throw a party and sleep with your girlfriend. fireplace + evil music + love making = trouble!

Spike has digressed to scaring people for cash, oh have the mighty fallen! Will someone please wake Buffy up from her Riley trance. Spike and Anya are awesome, and even better drunk! Ok, I've figured it out the house is making everyone randy. Anya brought Spike to the initiative house party. Anya and Xander is breaking up really, really badly. I also don't get the american college lifestyle.

Julie has some real issues it seems and what is up with Terra? Willow enters the evil bathroom, gets a drink and sees a guy drowning and disappearing then reappearing. He must be the evil spirit of the house. A real dangerous game of spin the bottle as Buffy and Riley still go at it like rabbits! Terra feels the evil in the house. Spike was enjoying the earthquake until he gets strapped down. Oh the haunted house episode, great, did they run out of ideas?

You can't keep a bad vampire down Spike breaks out and puts his hand up to save Buffy until he convinces himself that he doesn't want to do it and walks off! Now that Rules! Giles plays guitar and he scares Xander more than the ghosts that have enslaved Buffy. The Chicks dig Giles on the guitar! The ear ring doesn't suit him though. Great, the villain is a religious zealot old lady who tormented children in an orphanage. "He who smelt it, Dealt it." Not sure how religious that quote is.

Terra buys Anya and Xander some time by calling out the spirits of the kids. They enter the house which has become a jungle. In the grand tradition of this show the kids are still creepy looking. Xander is saved from drowning by Anya who seems to be immune from the ghosts of the house.

When will this episode end?

Buffy and Riley snap out of their trance and the episode ends.........

To quote the last line of this episode from Buffy,

"Yeah Horrible!"

I am finding it really hard to like anything in this episode, other than Spike and Anya it was BAD!!! Ben Affleck and J-Lo in Gili Bad!

New Moon Rising

A nice easy start for once, Terra is a cat person and Willow is a dog person, but Terra wants to get a pet to share with Willow and they are holding hands...... is there more to this that Willow doesn't know? she is not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to relationships. Anya has a new hair cut! and to Willow's horror, OZ HAS RETURNED! (Must of finished shooting Austin Powers!)

Terra is upset, Xander is thrilled to see him and Willow in shock! Another Demon tries to get the Jump on Buffy and Riley to no effect. Riley is Anti-Wolfiet, and it seems that has upset Buffy. Oz seems to be cured from his little full moon problem. Xander is right Willow doesn't have a new GUY in her life! Oz is trying to right a wrong. While Riley's army guys are being attacked by a gang of were-wolves. I wonder who he is going to blame?

Willow and Oz is reconnecting. Terra comes past and leaves embarrassed seeing Oz. Geez Buffy and Riley are still going at it, you'd think they would of got enough from last episode. To Riley everything is Black and White where as through Buffy's experience there are shades of gray.

So Willow has fallen for Terra? talk about throwing a wrench into things as Buffy is caught off guard. Buffy gives some solid advice to Willow by telling her that she needs to be honest before someone gets hurt. Spike wakes up to a surprise which happens to be Robo-Demon who has a proposition Spike can't turn down. Is Willow going to choose Terra over Oz? Really emotional scene. Terra and Oz run into each other which causes more friction. Oz has figured it out and has lost his control, love does do strange things to a person, even turn them into wolves. Riley took Oz down before he could cause any damage. However the guys in the coats have taken over.

Out comes Spike to help rescue Oz (BTW you'd think they'd give him pants.) Riley gets busted springing Oz from captivity and his reward is a night in the big house. It seems that Riley is about to be court marshaled for hanging out with a slayer. Spike leads them to the back way and it seems that Robo-demon has a hand in letting him in. I wonder why Buffy hasn't realized that this is too easy.

Anya got her first HI 5 from Giles no less! I guess this means this is the end of Riley's career in the military. Buffy is about to go over everything that has happened since season 1 seeing that we've seen it already were saved the agony. Oz is ready to leave again it seems. He knows that the thing he wants the most is the thing he has to live without.

A much better episode, some real emotion shown and Oz returning to end his story on a positive of sorts was nice. a little slow near the end though.

Well this challenge was a little disappointing to say the least. 3 episodes to go in this season so we will see where it will lead and how the loose ends will tie together.

Buffy Challenge: Post 35: Season 4: Episodes 16 - 17

 

Who Are You

Previously on the Challenge........

(I always wanted to say that!) What a cliff hanger from last episode, I didn't see that coming one bit. I love the whole mind swapping thing and it has breathed new life into this season of Buffy! How is she going to get out of this one? and what kind of mischief will Faith get  up to? Well let me hit play and well see.

We start right where we left off with Faith being loaded into the ambulance but it's really Buffy in Faith's body and Faith is now in Buffy's body, confused? yeah me too, it seems the Mayor is playing a big part from beyond the grave.

I'm not sure that Faith will be able to fool Joyce for too long a mother knows their child and it won't be too long before she sees through the charade. Faith is practicing her best Buffy impersonation, while Buffy is being drugged as Faith. Faith is really going to have fun with this one. While Buffy as Faith is being abducted by the council of watchers, things can't get any worse can they.

How much longer will Faith be able to listen to Buffy friends give her the bad word. She has run into Spike and that was just awkward. Faith likes what she sees in Spike, just when the episode was getting good out comes Robo-Demon. I wonder how many rouge slayers have tried the whole "It's not me, someone has switched bodies with me." (I'm sure that's what they all say.)

Oh Faith can see that Terra has a thing for Willow, and has let her know about it in the worst way. Buffy is having no luck what so ever trying to escape from the council, and Faith is going to have some fun with Riley. Terra has got a feeling that things are not right (and there are no Hyenas Willow, that is so first season!) It seems that Faith may of got more than she bargained for, Faith has never been loved and is experiencing it in a real harsh way.

What can be more deadlier than Buffy in Faiths body? well Buffy in Faiths body behind the wheel. Faith is making her away out of the country and Buffy is trying to convince Giles that she is not Faith. I think she has done enough to convince him that she is her. Thanks to Terra they have found a way to get things back to order. Is there still good in Faith? And a Vampire goes to Church. Don't tempt God vamp boy as it will come back to haunt you. Believe it or not Faith is first on the scene. Now that was a cool Vamp kill with the whole spin dust. Oh boy, Buffy Vs Faith but in reverse. The switch worked but it seemed that when Faith was wailing on her body she was really taking out her frustrations of what she has become. Faith is box carting out of Sunnydale with only her thoughts to haunt her.

I have to say this was a brilliant piece of television the Faith Character really works so well in this show as a foil for Buffy, And the acting was brilliant by both the girls.

9/10 (loses one for the Adam stuff! he is just boring as a villain!) 

Superstar

Ninja Vampires are cool! Good thing Buffy has back up. This show really doesn't like to start slowly. Who is that? and why is the gang begging for help from him? (I do like the chair though!) Jonathan is taking charge and this is so a dream sequence with the whole James Bond music happening. Didn't know that Vampire slayers were stalked by paparazzi? Oh Jonathan is the nerdy guy that Cordelia kept giving him a hard time.

He is really a big man around town. Sports star, Author, and Chick Magnet! Yeah I know how that feels having everyone wanting a piece of me it can be really annoying at times. Jonathon is taking charge of the Army.

Out comes the man of the hour Jonathan is doing a little bit of couple counseling, is this some alternative world where the nerds rule? Is there a point to this episode? So Jonathan is also a huge recording star? and an aphrodisiac for Anya.

Back to Robo-Demon watching Jonathan, and he is seeing that things are not what it is meant to be. So Jonathan, your new found stardom is just a (sorry distracted by the Swedish twins) what was I saying? Oh yeah, his new found stardom is a work of some sort of magic gone wrong. Also Shaking the camera doesn't hide the really bad monster suit, just makes me dizzy. The mark on the monste is the same as the scare on Jonathan's back.

Anya is AWESOME! I love the way she says exactly what she thinks! (Jonathan has his own comic series! I'd pick that book up!) Jonathan invented the Internet! Get off the shrimp Anya. It seems that Buffy is waking up to the spell that Jonathan has put on the world. (although he is the coach of the woman's soccer team!) Jonathan's swim suit calendar *shudder* and why would Giles have a copy of it? (another DC reference with Kryptonite!)

Xander should not speak Latin full stop. The Jig is up Jonathan athey figured out what has happen with the spell and it seems Jonathan is not going to lose his grip on the world. Once again a really great story is ruined by a really crummy looking monster. Poor Jonathan back to being the dork that he is. It seems that some good however has come out of this as Jonathan has given Buffy some really good advice about her relationship with Riley.

A really good message behind this episode, kind of out of place in the series but I like the fact that we should not strive to be who we are not but be ourselves. Is it me or does there seem to be a light hearted episode thrown in near the end of every season for good measure? This one was not too bad but in the grand scheme of things I think it is just a filler episode that has no real purpose to move the story along.

Well a bit of a mixed bag here, maybe the second best episode of the season with "Who are you" and a so so comedy based one with Superstar.

Buffy Challenge Post 34: Season 4: Episodes 14 - 15

Goodbye Iowa

Were back with another thrilling installment of the CHALLENGE! well considering the lackluster episode I just saw I'm not sure how thrilling this installment will be...............

What a quick start, straight into Buffy letting everyone know about the set up of the last episode. Which Spike plays devils advocate and implies that Riley had something to do with it.

And out comes ROBO-DEMON!!! This was the initiatives big goal? Create a super monster put together of the parts of the monsters they have captures. Even Spike can't come to the terms that he's not bad anymore. SPIKE IS SINGLE HANDEDLY KEEPING THIS SHOW WATCHABLE!

Riley is in denial that his boss has evil intentions. Even innocent kids look creepy on this show. A real meeting of the minds in that scene. Walsh's body has been discovered as Giles is living a totally different type of nightmare. Isn't it rich that Buffy is questioning the realism of the roadrunner cartoons, as everything in her life is realistic! Anya again comes up with another gem of a line! "You should get a boring boyfriend like Xander!, but you can't have Xander!"

So much for that kid's chances for a recurring role. Yummy Sushi PJ's could work during a motivational speech. It's got me all ready to go hunt demons in my Superman PJ's! Walsh is found dead and Buffy is the suspect seeing that she was impaled. I bet you a dollar that Riley won't follow orders from Washington. They've wondered into a crypt with a television. Spike is not going to be happy that they smashed his TV!

Willy's Bar has now been changed to Willy's Place. He is trying to go on the straight and narrow. (I wonder if any demons would be under 25 BTW) Riley needs to put a sock in it. He has gone nuts. Pulls a gun on a little old lady, it seems he is suffering from shock of the loss of his mentor or is it his world is crumbling around him.

(Brain switching off from the witch craft talk) What's up with Willows "Friend" pulling the fast one. Rental scan is a totally different thing than what you were thinking Xander. Pieces are being put together by Giles and Willow, but Riley is losing his mind and the music sounds like something bad is about to happen. How can he push Willow that way? OH the old drug your soldiers through their food routine. I think that excuse is used at the Olympics now and then.

Hey the demon has a floppy disk drive! That is funny! All the secrets of Walsh have been reveled, Robo demon is on a rampage stabs a few people and makes his escape. Spikes little speech to Willow and Xander about killing demons has got out and the demons are not happy about it.

Riley is locked up in a military hospital and we end the episode with more questions than answers.

A real transition episode which was saved by some really witty dialog.

This Year's Girl

And that is how we make a bed!

FAITH? what is going on? Oh she is still in a coma and it's not looking good for everyone's favorite evil slayer! Buffy is not in a good mood and snapping at Willow is not going to help. Riley looks to be doing ok after his little run in. We've got a bit of a problem with the initiative as they are arguing with each other. Faith is haunted by Buffy (can you blame her?) Robo-demon is opening up monsters now.

Oh I was looking forward to Buffy's plan to rescue Riley but oh well, I guess it's cheaper this way to film. Back to Faith and her haunting nightmare that is Buffy and the knife. Good morning Faith, welcome back to the world of the living. (nice touch pulling out the drip line. it does hurt.) It seems that Faith has been out of it for a long time, and her walking out of the hospital in that girls clothes means big trouble for Buffy (also a good thing that she happens to be the same size).

Right now the Faith scenes are keeping me interested, but this whole Buffy and Riley chat is losing me. (too sappy for my liking) Talk about a great activity for couples, Demon hunting! The hospital is noticing Faith missing. She makes her way to Giles house and sees a warm and fuzzy scene where they are planning the takedown of robo-demon (I'm not calling it Adam). Buffy just got the call and now they have another problem on her hand. Maybe Faith is stalking Buffy to get her revenge.

Faith and Buffy finally meet up. Look at the fear on Willow's face, priceless. CAT FIGHT, CAT FIGHT! been a while since I've been able to say that, faith is off like a rocket as soon as the cops arrive. What does 5 x 5 mean? I hear you Xander I also can't be held responsible for the effect I have on women also. (Usually they run the other way.) What just happen there? Why can't they remember that Spike hates them. Oh black helicopters are never a good sign. It seems Faith still has the kill first ask questions later attitude that got her so far.

A message from beyond the grave from the mayor for faith has her ready for a final assault on Buffy and her gang. Joyce makes a cameo just to get punched in the head. Faith is now playing mind games with Buffy's mum. Thankfully Buffy comes crashing in to stop the agony that was Faith's evil speech. A huge fight and an AWESOME ENDING!!!!!

Whoa I can't wait to see the continuation of this one!

So much happening in this episode and a cliff hanger that I didn't see coming! That is more like it. (Also half way through they forgot about robo-demon, which is not a bad thing)

8/10 - Will have to get to the next challenge sooner rather than later as I really want to see where this one goes!

Buffy Challenge Post 33: Season 4: Episode 12 - 13

A New Man

What an odd title for an episode? Could it mean there is a new character being introduced or a new focus for one of the characters that already exists?

The whole "I can't be with you Riley" thing didn't last too long did it? Little action to start with only to be awkwardly be interrupted by Willow who puts her life in danger by throwing a surprise party for Buffy. Oh Giles with the chainsaw cracks me up as much as Willow with the monkey last season.

Anya is learning slowly but it seems that Giles is not fitting in to a College party, what a shock there! I think that Giles is the focus of this episode which can't be a bad thing. Nothing is more evil than someone stating that they are EVIL! Spike is moving out or being kicked out?

Riley has let Professor Walsh in on the big secret about Buffy. She is recruiting Buffy into the initiative. Wow 17 that's impressive, Buffy has done that in the first 2 episodes. Riley is feeling a little emasculated by Buffy's slaying resume. (And so he should! 17 that is sad.) Giles and Walsh meet for the first time and I don't like the where this is headed. Did Walsh just take a shot at Giles? He is a strong male role model and has been a real father figure for her, Walsh has misdiagnosed the situation. Are there such a thing as a clean demon?

Giles is now seeing that he has been kept out of the loop, and quite upset that Spike knows more than he does! Oh no it is the Anti-Giles, Ethan is back for his annual butt kicking! So the demons are scared are they Ethan? Wonder if it has anything to do with the Commando's?

Boyfriend hint #17 "Always let the Girlfriend win when sparring with each other."

Drunk Giles is not a pretty sight! At least he acknowledges he gets hit in the head a lot. Willow and her new witch friend are practicing their dark arts. While Giles is getting over one heck of a hang over that has turned him into a really ugly demon who doesn't know his own strength. Hope he learns never to go drinking with his arch enemy! "Bloody Humans indeed!" How is Giles going to find himself out of this one? Isn't Aniya so positive at times.

Spike can understand Giles, and he needs to offer a little more than $100 for him to help. Wow Spike is cheap labor at 200 bucks. Spike drives a manual as well as I do. Take that Walsh! Buffy puts her foot down and seeing that she kicked Riley half way across the room he has no choice but to follow along. Everybody has a price and Spike is a hundred bucks. Does Giles need an interpreter right now or what? Never thought I'd see Buffy Vs Giles, however desperate times..... Somehow Giles was able to speak English and luckily he can't afford a real silver letter opener. A spell later and everything is back to normal (Marvel reference i've lost count to be honest "Spider-man strong")

Giles has updated his phone after crushing his classical piece. "But face!" A very timely warning from Giles about Riley and a very timely warning from Walsh about Buffy. I don't trust her and I think room 314 has a lot to do with it!

An interesting episode to move forward with the whole Buffy and the initiative.

Someone flunked spelling I see!

More Occult prayers from Willow in playing poker. Xander is starting up a get rich quick scheme! Boost bars, the latest craze. Anya once again is still not getting the "what happens between couples stays between couples" thing.

It seems that Buffy is getting a tryout and doing really well at it. Although the wierd look on Walsh's face can't be a good sign for her. Buffy is head over heals for Riley. Poor Willow not getting spanked can be hard.

Here is the thing that bugs me? What would Spike have any need with money seeing that all the stores would be open during the day?

At what point did this show change from being Buffy the Vampire slayer to Men in Black? The one time that Walsh cracks a joke it's not even funny. What is funny is that all this money spent by the government on weapons to fight demons and vampires could be replaced by a piece of sharpen wood!

Is it me or does this new witch friend have a bit of crush on Willow? The mystery of room 314 is finally reveled and once again its a Frankenstein's monster. (Didn't we see this before?)

Buffy is losing touch with her real friends and this is now getting out of hand. Buffy has sold out to the Government without doing her research. Great questions Willow, what is their ultimate agenda? Buffy has not done her homework and when you don't do your homework then most likely you will fail.

Spike has wondered in at the wrong time and now has been tagged.

Now this is just a little too weird for my liking the whole dispersing Buffy and Riley fighting with them sleeping together is really a distracting way to get the point across and Walsh is really creepy watching them! Oh and that Grin is just disturbing.

Spike seeks help from the Good guys and they are less than thrilled with helping. Still don't understand why vampires feel pain from things that are not stuff that can kill them? The rules kind of change a bit at times.

Willow and Buffy are drifting apart and I see now why Jess and April don't like Riley. (Although I don't think it's his fault. He is just a tool being used.) Great work with the hair after the spell! Oh and for all you doctors out there when operating on a vampire make sure you get them drunk on Brandy first!

Buffy has fallen for Walsh's trap and it seems she is enjoying the show way too much. (I have a feeling that Buffy is not dead like the tech says.) A cheap way to save on costly monster makeup is to get the actors to wear a really big cloak. Walsh's acting is so bad that even Riley couldn't believe this? Now he definitely doesn't believe it with Buffy giving Walsh a warning that she shouldn't mess with the Slayer.

Buffy has come around and we get a monologue from Walsh! Thankfully we are put out of our misery of hearing anymore of this tripe with Walsh getting impaled by the creature she created!

Ugh! What a crappy episode. The direction was as bad as I have seen and the story made little to no sense with the twists very formulaic. It seems it may be down hill from here. As I really couldn't care less about a SUPER DEMON Created by the government running loose. (It seems it is old ground that is being covered again.)

Well a bit of a mixed bag this time. The big reveal for the season is a bit of a fizzler at best. At least I don't have to see Walsh again.

Buffy Challenge Post 32: Season 4: Episodes 10 - 11

Hush

SHHHHHHHHHHHH! Hush now, be quiet as were about to start the challenge. Now just a side note Hush is also the title of one of my all time favorite Batman stories, written by Jeph Lobe and Illustrated by Jim Lee! Check it out the art alone is awesome!

Anyways enough about DC comics, it's Buffy time!

Straight into class, it seems it is the only class that Buffy is taking at college. Typical? Buffy? I don't think so! Now this is awkward wait it's just another one of those wacky Buffy dreams that we keep seeing. The one thing that is constant in this show is that all the little kids in it are creepy. The old sleep though the important part of the lecture bit. Willow gives the I've got something to do line and they are off.

That was an odd start to an episode even for this shows standards. The eternal mystery that is Buffy's brain! Spike is still a "guest" at Giles house. Anya is giving Xander the 3rd degree about their relationship and she still hasn't got the whole tactfulness thing down yet. After an evil chant they are motivated to hold a back sale. So they are a bunch of witches that do nothing and are not witches. Did I mention I don't like the whole Willow the Witch story? I did, ok sorry. (Another DC reference "Clark Kent our way......").

Xander is taking caution to the whole Spike babysitting thing. I agree with Spike on this one, I wouldn't bite him either! Alright Giles, finally getting some action and over the whole Jenny Calendar affair. Now that was odd, the whole breath leaving thing. The demon has stolen their voices so it seems I'm going to have to concentrate more on what I see as I can't listen to dialogue. (I wonder if the subtitles work for this episode?)

OK FOLKS WELCOME TO THIS WEEKS INSTALLMENT OF BUFFY CHARADES!

The music is really picking up in this episode and has to be a real character in the show. You really feel the tense nature of the situation. (On a side note, where do I get one of those voice stealing boxes? I could really use it in some of my classes!) Kind of sucks when you can't speak into a vocal recognition program that is ready to kill intruders! Ah the wonderful sound of silence! The whole town is infected and the means for communication has become difficult. The highlighted verse is Revelations 15:1 "Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in the wrath of God is complete." Are they seeing this as a punishment from God? or that the end is now approaching. As in any great disaster there is always someone out to make a Buck! $10 for a mini white board!

Which Buffy and Willow bought! A city wide hoax? how does that work? Thank God for the computer talking software. No rioting? what kind of american town is this? Great time to steal a kiss Rily as you can't be verbally abused for doing so. What is with the Joker looking demons. I don't know but I still hate the way they make the demons look in this show. (Although this one is not too bad I have to admit.) "WHY SO SERIOUS?" Also the reason you don't see the feet of the floating demons is because they are on a board with wheels, how do I know this? simple, they showed the board for a split second. (Tighten up in post production)

Nice angle shot of the demons, When you have no voice, no one can hear you scream! Oh they are so happy with themselves with their own personal heart collections! Quiet please, class is in session with Mr. Giles, This is the reason overhead projectors are never used in schools anymore, as it always takes forever to get the sheet on the right way.

No Xander that is not what they want! close but wrong! Uh Buffy? I think you need to re think that gesture! Oh you mean stake them, right! Buffy and Riley are on patrol and are being attacked by the henchmen in straight jackets. They are so going to run into each other. Which they do!

Even without talking Anya still doesn't know how to be subtle! Willow is using the Force, wait this isn't star wars, she used her witch craft to move the vending machine. Buffy figures out that the box is needed to be smashed, which Riley does and Buffy's scream causes the demons head to explode, which was hilarious as it reminded me of the ending to the weird al video for Spy Hard. As seen below.

The moment of truth for our characters now as they are able to discuss the happenings of the silent times at Sunnydale. Which leaves us with what else but an awkward silence to end the episode!

Oh boy did I have a lot of fun watching this one! I think it's proberly the episode of the season so far! The acting was brilliant it is really hard to mime an episode and It had me intrigued. Very funny moments though out and the ending was great!

Doomed

Starts off 2 seconds from where Hush ends, and I like the line, We have to talk! seeing they did everything but in the last episode.

So talk already, Riley that was an odd question to ask, "WHAT are you?" Buffy knows exactly what Riley does, however Buffy's reputation doesn't proceed herself as the government has no Idea who the Slayer is. Oh Buffy when will you meet a nice normal guy as you put it? To think that a show based in California it took so long for an Earthquake to happen. However it seems it was no ordinary earthquake as it seemed too familiar. So Riley will be sticking around it seems as he has made the opening credits. Spike and Xander are the classical odd couple as it seems that Spike still can't harm anyone.

Giles is starting to put pieces together with the commando issue. So the slayer is on the same level as the Easter bunny. We have a goat man on the loose. A good baton to the back of the head does the job.

What better way to celebrate the earthquake than a PARTY! Doesn't anyone ever study at college in America? (not according to all the movies and tv shows I've seen!) Naked Limbo? *shuddering at the thought!* Percy is an old fashioned pig, Willow is a catch!

OH THE HORROR! Spike in a Hawaiian shirt! Xander is a big man when Spike is powerless against him! (gotta feeling that his little speech is going to haunt him!) Is it me or is Willow more upset about being called a nerd than waking up to a dead guy. It's the end of the world again, for the third time! Once again the demon looks horrible! who ever is in charge of designing them should be strung up! It is ruining the show in my opinion. You can't get a manlier code than Lilac!

Buffy is making the tough choice by not giving Riley the chance. He is rightfully confused by her action. His determination is commendable but at the end of the day he needs to respect Buffy's wishes, which he is. (Although I think that she is making a mistake.) I do like the intertwining storyline where we see Buffy and her crew discussing what their plan is and seeing the commando ops doing the same thing.

Spike is trying to commit suicide. He has lost his mojo and other than the scary shirt he is wearing he is not very threatening. I agree with Riley, Buffy's attitude is so negative and she is living deep into the past. Once again Riley has tried but if he really does care for her he needs to let her go. Spike really knows how to push the buttons of Xander and Willow. Isn't it convenient that Giles has what the demon is looking for and he gets a good beating for his trouble. Their opening the hellmouth again and were making the trip back to Sunnydale High which has seen better days. (Thanks to the big explosion of the season 3 finale)

Is it me or does Buffy like to go into things head first without thinking? which typically leads to Xander getting beat up. Spike is taking out all the vent up rage that he has built up inside for so long on the demon. The demons are the sacrafices to open the hell mouth and Buffy jumps in head first to stop the last one. The jig is up Riley, paintball indeed! Nice Yankee accent there Spike but I think it was the shirt that saved you.

Buffy finally comes to her senses and sees that Riley was right to some extent and she can't do things alone. Spike has turned to the good side, for the simple reason that he can kill monsters! His pep talk however falls on deaf ears.......

"OH COME ON!!!!!!"

This was a really average episode at best, if spike was not in it I would say it was terrible. Boring and pointless and it seems that when the "end of the world" is brought up in this show it doesn't seem that dreadful.

Half way though the season and we have Buffy now with another crime fighting boyfriend, who I can see why the people who are fans of the Angel character don't like him as he is nothing like Angel. Xander and Anya are hot and heavy. Giles is sitting at home watching TV! (oh and he has a new woman in his life, who we know nothing about!) Oz is gone and Willow is broken hearted and delving deeper into the dark arts. Oh and Spike can't harm humans but can beat the living daylights out of demons, monsters and other vampires which makes him a good guy now! I see how there is no real arch over the whole season (the commando thing doesn't really cut it.) However as stand alone episodes it hasn't been too bad a season.

Well second half of the season is coming up and if felt like episodes 10 - 11 could of been a season ender. I'm still here so this show is doing something right. See you next time Challengers!

Buffy Challenge Post 31: Season 4: Episodes 8 - 9

Pangs

It wouldn't be the challenge without a little controversy in my scoring system. But by now everyone should know that my scores are just that, my scores! Anyone has the right to disagree with it.

Lets move on shall we? Now you'd think that people living in Sunnydale would know that it's not a great Idea to go for a nightly stroll in the park alone? Doesn't anyone watch the news or read a paper in this town?

Oh it's ok, it's just a vampire. is it me or was that Angel stalking Buffy again? He can be really creepy when he wants to be. Anya you have so much to learn about being tactful. Willow is channeling her left wing wackiness. Anya is disappointed that Xander is not doing all the work, Oh boy is she one rowdy 1200 year old teenager who doesn't have control of her hormones! I better mention the plot point here, Xander finds a hidden town under the dig spot.

I am going to find it hard to relate to this episode as being Australian I don't celebrate thanksgiving. Willow doesn't like Anya? I wonder why? Spike is making his way back after his narrow escape from the last episode. The town underneath brings forth a spirit who kills the first teacher this season, slacking off on the teacher massacre this season as the first one gets it in episode 8.

Oh Angel is back hanging out with Giles. Looking out for Buffy, he is still creeping me out with the whole stalking Buffy thing. Spike is suffering from his Vampiric Impotence still. I don't get it either Willow, the whole leaving for her own good thing. Interesting that Angel hasn't got time to plug his own show. Spike is having no luck right now. The native American spirit claims to be vengeance for his people and how do we avenge his people? "Still trying not to refer you as bloody colonials" - Great line!

Is it me or are we seeing the first Willow and Giles fight. Is it stealing if your taking back your own stuff? Xander is looking really ill, it seems that he has been infected by the illness that his people were given. Too much argument and just when I thought that Buffy was going to end this bickering she wants to make pie. Vengeance is a dangerous thing and when hatred consumes a person it is really difficult to get out of the cycle.

Spike steals the show again! Giles is upset that when he suggested the plan of attack there was a fight, but as soon as Spike explains it makes sense. Why does everyone think that Angel is Evil again? The Native American spirit is attacking like crazy with the arrows, Spike's been hit three times and even Buffy has taken an arrow into the arm. Make that 4 arrows for Spike. Well it's hard to kill something that is already dead! She finds out that their own weapons are the key to victory. (I can't believe they used a real bear in the show. Although it only highlighted the costume shots!) Angel slinks back into the darkness.

XANDER YOU AND YOUR BIG MOUTH!!!!! (Like the subtle oops at the end.)

Another Ok episode, Thank goodness for Spike as he is keeping this show together single handedly. (Also I do enjoy Anya when she is on the scene!)

5/10 - This episode was neither here or there, they tried to get some sort of moral dilemma debate about the plight of indigenous people and their rights but all that achieved was a long annoying shouting match of a scene.

Something Blue

Willow is not over Oz, seeing that his picture is everywhere. Life in an american college dorm is something I'd never understand. So Riley is a Lesbian, if that means he likes girls then I can see that. Riley is comparing Buffy to an exam? I can see him falling for the girl who is a mystery to him, girls who are a mystery can be a double edged sword. I disagree with Buffy here real love and passion doesn't go hand in hand with pain and fighting, real love is there it extinguish the pain and stop the fighting. She is so messed up in her definition of a true relationship, this to my opinion is due to her heartbreak of her previous relationships. But as I read today in an excellent book "The Sacred Romance" (check it out!) One of the most devious lies that Satan tries to convince us is that NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE! This is a dangerous line of thinking as we do not grow as a person if we believe we're going to be stuck in the same pattern of hurt and disappointment.

Anyway, Spike is still chained up and it seems that Giles is ready to take him and Buffy out, however the dynamic of the two is wonderful! Willow sees the last remains of Oz ripped away and she has finally relised that Oz is gone for good. What torture are they putting spike through, depriving him of "Passions" that is just cruel. especially when Timmy is stuck down the well!

Riley and Buffy are about to go on their first date, but poor Willow is really feeling the pain of her loss. What does she do? Willow goes wild! (man I thought I danced badly!) She has started to spiral out of control and is turning to alcohol to numb the pain. Sometimes I wish the pain can go away by just saying so. Amy the rat makes a cameo! I really don't like the fact that Willow has turned to the dark arts and in her state of mind that is more dangerous than alcohol.

Giles is not only a wonderful father figure for Buffy but for all the characters including Willow and his concern is really touching. How does Willow react? she accidentally blinds Giles! (that would be his worst nightmare if he can't see and read!) Spike gets away. There is no such thing as a good witch. Oh, she had Amy back to normal for a second only to rat her again. It seems that Willow's spell has worked.

That is just hilarious! Spike and Buffy are now engaged. Oh they make such a cute couple. Oh I'm laughing so hard from this scene that I've totally neglected to type anything. Oh no, the worst thing a guy can hear from a girl he likes is "I hope we can just be friends" Why oh why do all all demons look cheap and crappy in this show? Xander has put 2 and 2 together and figured out that it was Willow who has made things the way they are. Anya has also relised that Willow has been abducted by the same Giant smurf that took her all those years ago.

What a time to break the spell, with Buffy and Spike in mid lip lock! Nice little touch in the background with Anya embracing Xander. Very clever putting Willow in a "Speak no evil" tee shirt. Nice save by Buffy on the Riley part, and he ends it with a smooth line!

Well what an entertaining episode, very funny but those dam demon costumes still look really bad!!!!!!

Well I really enjoyed that last one, I do like it when they take the main characters and shake things up a bit! Oh and will Amy ever be cured of her problem of being a rat? I don't think so! But not a bad days work for the actress getting paid for ten seconds on screen.

Buffy Challenge Post 30: Season 4: Episode 6 - 7

Wild at heart

Outside Uni on a dark night, just a usually quiet time here in Sunnydale, of except for the standard vampire fight, Buffy leave the jokes and puns to the professionals. Oh it's Spike and he is not happy, I think he is really not going to be happy when he realizes he has been captured by the mysterious commando guys.

What is it with the blanky metaphors? Giles at the Bronze? He really must be getting bored. Giles is down with o-p-p! Once again Xander states the obvious and the chick that is taking Oz's fancy is singing again. Willow is starting to feel uncomfortable, and rightfully so. I think the days of innocent Willow are long over.

Buffy is getting A's and doing better than Willow? what has the world come to? Keep walking Oz, no don't sit down next to the cute singer who has you mesmerized. Now this is awkward, what is Oz doing? Okay it's that time of the month, for Oz of course. The werewolf FX is looking awesome this season and it seems that Oz has a bit of strength behind him.

WHAT? two werewolves? Is everyone in a band some type of monster? This is not a good thing, Oz get away from this vixen, she will unleash a beast that lurks inside. Poor Willow, rejected by a confused Oz. Giles is watching Jeopardy which means he has slumped to a new low. Don't ask for details Xander just help Willow, Good advice though. Oz has lied to Buffy this is a first, he is not acting normal for him. (which is a real stretch I know but even Buffy noticed.)

Don't have much time for the sappy "everyone is upset" song montage, just not my type of thing. Oz is this such a good idea? She is crazy and you will live to regret this. Told you, Willow walks into the room seeing a caged and naked Oz with another woman. Hold on Willow, weren't you doing the same thing with Xander? (except with your clothes on I guess) Who am I kidding, I should know by now that this show loves to screw with everyone's emotions. Willow has reached her lowest depth. Buffy, I don't think leaving Willow by herself in this state is a good Idea, call Giles or Xander. Wait don't call Xander.

There is a dark side to Willow that is about to come out, you mess with the dark arts it will have an effect on even the sweetest person. Never get a witch angry. Willow snapped out of it right at the last moment but she finds herself with the she-wolf just before sunset. The metamorphosis scene with Veronica and Oz is wonderful but is ruined by the corny dialog. Werewolf Oz kills the she-wolf but in doing so I think he has killed his relationship with Willow also.

The whole commando thing is just a distraction that is not needed in this episode. Why take Spike out like that without any explanation and Buffy running into the guy was pointless. Like all the main characters in this show "When the going gets tough, the tough pack their bags and leave." Oz leaves and in the process breaks Willow's heart as well.

This was a messy episode, many of the threads made little to no sense and it was illogical to remove Oz at this stage. They tried to play the emotional card on this one and it fell short.

The Initiative

Women are the greatest mystery never to be solved. "She's so HOT, she's BUFFY!" Cheesy! I don't think Buffy is Canadian but that would explain the strange behavior and her inability to use simple canteen food and beverage dispensing machines. Good morning Spike how does it feel to be a caged animal in a sterile facility? Hey Spike has made the opening credits, I guess that means he is a regular now?

Xander has just explained the standard structure for almost every episode of Buffy. Giles and Xander on patrol? Ah Spike, how many cosmetic companies experiment on vampires? Willow, Oz is gone, you need to face the reality of the situation. Way to go Buffy standing up to the mean professor with logic. Yeah ask Parker about Buffy, your going to get a real balanced answer there. I really like it when Parker gets hit! No one should compare a woman to a toilet seat, at that point I wanted to reach in and smack him around myself.

That's right boys take Spike out of the cage, he is playing possum as he is the smartest Vampire in this show, hence his escape from the monster confine. "How bout them Bronco's" is a great pick up line. Willow is not in the right frame of mind to get relationship advice from at this stage. I like this guy, he is noble and going around the whole Buffy situation the right way.

Ah man Harmony is still here. Putting up pictures of unicorns in a den, that is just wrong. Thank you Giles for telling Xander to shut up! he does waffle on too much on patrol. At the party Willow is getting into the wing man bit, but her poker face needs work. Is it me or did I just see a dramatization of me approaching every girl I like for the first time, although I usually run away before I get to offer them cheese, maybe that is where I go wrong?

Xander vs Harmony, is the woosie girlie version of Buffy vs Spike. (Xander really does fight like a 9 year old girl having a hissy fit.) I love the fact that they are giving the slow motion effect to the sissy fight. Harmony I can answer the question of why men always leave, it's because your annoying! Oz's song hits the player and there is a trigger to bad memories for Willow. She is however a really good friend as she is sacrificing her happiness for Buffy.

Ah man why does all the good guys have to have some sort of hidden agenda as it seems all is not what it seems? A demon hunter? looks more like some sick government facility trying to weaponize the monsters for their own purpose. Of course the leader of the facility is none other than professor Walsh. Why can't things be the way they seem in this show? Too many twists for the sake of too many twists.

They are not going to kill Spike off Buffy, They just put him into the opening credit sequence. For a guy who can only go out at night where does Spike get those cool threads? Buffy and Riley having an argument over who has to leave, they are just as stubborn as each other! As if Spike is not going to strike at Buffy's real weakness, which is her heart. He physically attacks Willow and takes a bite out of her or he tried but couldn't get his mojo working. Spike there is no shame to Vampiric impotence I'm sure there is some sort of nasal spray that could help. Willow's reaction is great thinking that she is the reason that Spike didn't wanna bite her. ("Your more like a sister to me..... or lets just be friends")

Commando's get Spike but all it takes is a small laps of concentration allows spike to escape. I like the way Buffy was able to use the fact that they were wearing night goggles against them with the flare. (See Xander does come in handy at times.) Walsh is as nasty as a commando leader as she is a professor. See Spike it wasn't you or Willow, it was some implant that was placed. Riley has made the first step to becoming closer to Buffy but with his extra curricular activities and her extra curricular activities crossing paths this is going to end in great pain for one or possibly both of them.

Not horrible by any stretch and the second half was so much better than the first. I can see how things can be difficult for Riley. However as a novel idea I'd like to see Buffy date a normal person for a while who was not a 400 year old vampire, or a sleaze bag, or some night time government operative. However this is Sunnydale and the most normal guy on this show is Xander and that is not saying much. (BTW no Anya in the last two episodes which is a shame.)

The Initiative was much better than wild at heart, but suffered from the slow start. (sometimes it's best not to force the humor.)

Buffy Challenge Post 29: Season 4: Episode 4 - 5

Fear Itself

After double checking, I am 100% sure that this is episode 4, I hope.

Nice camera angle through the pumpkin eyes to start it. Buffy is using the pumpkin for a metaphor for her life. Fantasia can be a frightening film, Come on Mickey being attacked by possessed mops, that is scary in any reality. Xander is feeling a little left out seeing that he is the only one not in college.

Poor Buffy, I'd hate to be anyone jumping in front of her with a Halloween mask on to try to scare her. Yeah like that guy, STUPID, YOUR SO STUPID!!!!! What is going on with Buffy? her life is spinning out of control she has no guidance. Still not a fan of Willow the witch. It seems that I'm not the only one as Oz and Buffy seem to agree with me. Oh look it's that jerk man-whore Parker. The worst monster that Buffy has faced in this show so far. I thought Halloween was the Vampires day off? Giles in a Sombrero, I think it could catch on! I could see all the kids at school wearing them! Wow Buffy must be really depressed as she just turned down chocolate.

What is Americans fascination with Halloween? I don't get it to be honest. Anya is back wondering why Xander hasn't called, I think his Uncle is just glad to see Xander has contact with an actual female. Anya does have a valid point he does have very little in common with Buffy, Willow and Oz at this stage of their lives. Professor Walsh is hard but fair. Marking papers is scary stuff, you should see some of the answers students come up with at my school.

Alright, evil symbol on the floor during Halloween, that is not going to cause any problems later in the episode. (Star Wars reference, with the disturbance in the force, nice.) Did that plastic spider turn into a real one? and if Buffy is that close to home why is she living at college? Little Red Riding Hood is a scary costume. It seems that the topic of Buffy's father is still a touchy one. She is having real issues with relationships with males, It seems that every time she gets close to one they betray her trust or end up leaving her. (Even Giles who is the closest thing to a father figure had betrayed her trust at one point last season.) Willow as Joan of Arc, also nice!

Hey didn't Little Red Riding Hood also carry weapons in her basket? Oz's costume is clever (sacrilegious but clever). All hell has broken loose in the house of horrors. Kids make sure you read the instructions before painting evil symbols on the floor of the attic. I loved Abbot and Costello, they made the funniest monster movies they did meet Dracula, Frankenstein and the mummy! Finally we see some bats in a show about vampires! it only took 4 seasons! What could be more frightening than a pink bunny rabbit. It seems that is the scariest thing Anya has seen in her 1000 years as a demon.

Oz turns off the annoying sound effects where Buffy remarks, "Thank the Lord!" to which Oz replies "Your welcome" -HA!

Now I have been really hard on the special effects in this show, but the skeleton looked fantastic! (not the plastic one but the hallucination one!) Senior Giles is waiting for Halloween trick or treaters unfortunately everyone learned from a few years ago and all he gets at his door is Anya who has her priorities on one saving one person only. Great comeback Willow "So's your face!" works for everything. Also she does have a point, she is not Buffy's sidekick. Is the deal here that their worst fears come alive? As Buffy thinks she is alone or is it that Xander is feeling he is not important and has disappeared?, Oz is turning into a warewolf which is looking even better than last season. Willow has conjured up her first guiding spell which goes horribly wrong. Buffy's fear seems to stem from her lack of trust, her feeling of not having direction in her life and oh and getting attacked by vampires (who would of figured?) GILES WITH THE CHAIN SAW!!!!! That's how you make a door!

They have snapped out of their fears but it looks like they were led to the attic. The fear of the people in the building is feeding the demon. That is the coolest entrance so far in the show, Great work Giles. Once again Buffy acts on instincts before thinking. Who's a cute little fear demon now? It is tacky, to taunt the fear demon. I love the symbolism of how our fears may seem huge to us and if we let it rule our lives it can consume us, however in the cool light of day fear is a really tiny thing and can be quashed easily.

What a difficult episode to give a mark to, the deep meaning behind it was brilliant. It was however really patchy at times. Not the worst I've seen however not the best either so I think due to the really great symbolism that we can't let a LITTLE thing like fear rule us........

Beer Bad

And now for a message on the dangers of excess alcohol consumption from Buffy Summers...........

Straight into the action for this one. The action in this show is really good and jerk face Parker has realized that Buffy is a real hero ....... in her dreams. One of my big regrets is not taking Psychology as a major during my studies in education. Why is Buffy hung up on this Guy? Is it the dashing good looks? It's most likely the hair I think. She really knows how to pick them doesn't she.

Xander has got a Job, as a bartender. Of course all you need to be a bartender is to see cocktail the movie. Willow what an imagination. (too much soapies I think?) I think Buffy has it wrong, guys don't have a bubble where they keep "The girl of their dreams" while they are playing around with others. Guys like that is just looking for the next conquest. Once again WHY IS SHE SO HUNG UP ON THIS GUY? Xander is doing it tough pouring beer for these pretentious tools who think they are better than us normal people. Buffy this is not your fault YOU ARE NOT A SLUT! HE IS A SLUT! (or the male equivalent of a slut. any help guys? anyone know what the right phrase is here?) Isn't the legal age to drink in the states 21? Another EMO CHICK singer. Is it me or is Oz looking at her oddly? I'd hate to say this but I think the beer is making people crazy and act out of character. This is really out of character for Oz.

Dumb Buffy week! (another spin off that didn't get off the ground "Buffy the Drunken Vampire Slayer!") Why do television shows have to over do the tubing in science experiments? The beer is spiked with some type of potion. The big evil of this episode "Binge Drinking" This is the first out of character episode for Oz I've seen. YOUR ALL STUPID!!!! Xander do something please, Stop this madness. Willow is confronting Parker about his romping around. What does he do? he uses his lines to pick up Willow. I really hate this guy. We are not animals who should go around mating with anything we see. There is no such thing as casual sex, Parker is what is wrong with the world, the whole "what is good for me attitude" is destroying society.

Talk about taking things literally, drink beer and become a Neanderthal. Jack the owner of the bar has got to be behind this. These guys look like and remind me of some of the kids I went to school with. Good thing cavemen have thick skulls. WATCH OUT WILLOW! Parker is pure evil and he will say and do anything to add you to the list. YES! ALRIGHT WILLOW! You legend, you saw though his little act!

Cave Slayer Buffy coming next fall to FOX!

Sorry going to deviate here for a second but this scene where the cave boys set fire to the bar reminds me of a great scene from "Final Crisis #1" by Grant Morrison (available at your local comic store! check it out it's a great read and the art by JG Jones is to die for) "You ask me Fire was our FIRST mistake" "Like everythin' else the sad, stinkin' human race ever thought of........ we take a good idea." "And we use it to KILL ourselves"

Cave Slayer Jumps into the fire on her instincts to save FRIEND! Xander bravely follows in. (I wonder how long it took for them to do S.M.G's hair like that?) Will Cave Slayer kill Parker? most likely not but it doesn't mean she won't give him a nice memento to remember her by whacking him over the head with a stick! Hit him again!!!! YES!

I've gotta say I have not been disappointed by the final scenes of each episode so far in this season. (only the commando ending of the first episode of the season I didn't like)

Another Meh episode, not great but not horrible. It had some moments that were good, Like seeing Willow see through Parker and Buffy whacking Parker over the head not once but twice! Didn't like where Oz was going in this episode and it didn't make much sense that kids under the age of 21 in America were freely served beer at a bar. (or able to get a job at a bar to be honest.)

Buffy Challenge Post 28: Season 4: Episodes 1 - 3

 

(quick notes folks, the order of episodes is a little different on the season 4 dvd so I watched the 1st and 3rd episode before I knew that I missed episode 2, So I've put episode 2 in and we have a super sized challenge this post. Other than wondering when Buffy and Willow became room mates I didn't really notice as there was no real major threads that ran through the 3 episodes.)

So after about a month and a bit we are moving on to the 4th season of the adventures of Buffy and friends. We move from season 3 which was April's favorite season to Season 4 which is her least favorite season. I as always kind of have a theory of why this may be so. The way I see it was that seasons 1 - 3 told a huge three part arch, introducing the characters in the first season, breaking them down mentally in the second and redeeming them by the end of the third. So it seems that the story almost starts again in season 4 and it may as well be a new show all together. The setting is different which brings new challenges as they are in a different stage of their lives. Also the ending of season 3 was so definitive it almost feels like they would have to reboot the show from here. It will be interesting to see if I agree with April or not on the merits of season 4. I've got a feeling that as per usual she will go mad trying to figure out the complexities of my scoring system.

Well that is enough babbling from me lets move on with the first episode entitled:

The Freshman

Oh Willow has a new spunky hair cut! I like it! Introduction to the modern novel, sounds like a great read. How do you get to be renowned? Images of pop culture sounds like a subject I'd like to do. Willow doesn't want to be caught unawares which means yep, she is about to be caught unaware. In the simpsons there is a theory that Homer get dumber every season, I think the opposite can be said here as it seems the vampires are getting smarter every season.

We start again with Buffy attending first day of College. I'd never understand how the American tertiary system works. Oh Willow once again you are the walking embodiment of the "That's what she said..." Joke. If your description of knowledge was said by any other character I don't think they could of aired it on national television. Hey Oz is still here and it seems that jello shots are the drink of the day.

Giles has lost his job, I guess that blowing up your library is not something you should put on your resume. Buffy drops books on this seasons love interest. Everyone's gotta brain, but not everyone seems to use it. Buffy runs into her room mate she seems nice and over stimulated. (yeah she is evil, come on anyone who owns a celine dion poster has to be evil!) I think I'm gonna count how many teachers they are going kill in this season. What a way to humiliate a student in front of everyone on her first day.

It seems this is the classic story of the big fish in the pond being placed in the ocean. So geology 101 is what the football players study. Mr. pointy is Buffy's security blanket, hah! This show wouldn't be about a Vampire Slayer if there were no vampires, now would there? You can't find good lackeys anymore. Giles you hound dog! Old people are not allowed to have a private life. So this season's villain is named "Sunday" and I didn't know that vampires could get stoned. (Failed spinoff show: Monster Sarcasm Rally) It seems that Sunday is not your average Vampire as she gave Buffy a bit of a beating. Ok I'm a little confused, did Celine Dion fan chick get abducted? or are they pre empting Buffy's downfall?

Hey it's Xander, we can't have Buffy without "Mr. Point out the obvious." So Xander's life has sucked over the summer. (Marvel reference "Avengers Assemble" DC 14 Marvel 5) Oh Xander with the Star Wars quote, just not right but close! That is the thing Buffy is the same hero but fighting in a bigger world! "W.W.B.D" What would buffy do? not sure it would sell. So it was Buffy they were preempting her disappearance. Oh no never steal a Slayers diary. Sunday is looking like the cat who stole the cream when Buffy fell in. Not the umbrella! Stoner Vamp is gone. And Sunday didn't last long. So much for her being the big villain of the season, nice timing Giles, What is with the comando squad at the end of the episode?

Now as a season opener, this was the best one I've seen so far. It reestablished Buffy's role and shook things up nicely. Some really funny lines and a nice vamp kill at the end. Would of liked to see the Vampire frat house last longer though.

Living Conditions

At the dorm! The music reminds me of my IT class who have a thing for listening to crappy 80's music, including Cher! Man her roomie is so annoying, counting every drop of milk. I would be worried about milk theft at uni as well! All those kids running around getting off on milk. Buffy is having a winging to Willow about her room mate. And out comes our first corny looking demon for the season. (No real improvement from last season I see.)

Out comes annoying Kathy! She is a different type of annoying the won't shut up about every little thing type of annoying. (or a DVD commentary person) AH MAN SUBTITLES, why couldn't they talk english like all the other demons. "Motor bike and Scooter Magazine" still waiting for mine to come in the mail. Another spin off that didn't get off the ground, "Buffy the Old Cat lady" Kathy is a little snoop isn't she? and she has stumbled into Buffy's bag of goodies. Oh I think this guy is going to watch more than her back. Beware of random adorableness.

Xander has nothing better to do it seems so he is hoping for some vampire action. HOW DARE KATHY SPILL SAUCE ON THE SLAYERS SWEATER! She labels her eggs? Chewing gum the scourge of teachers everywhere! Why can't Buffy have normal dreams? Oh and Kathy is one to talk about making noises in her sleep. Kathy is just everywhere. toodles? I have an issue with people who leaves saying toodles. Hey I got a High Distinction in Napping 101. Giles looks worried that is never a good sign. Can't type reading subtitles. Oh and fellows I wouldn't be standing that close to the fire with all that plastic on your face.

Parker is a Mimbo! CAT FIGHT CAT FIGHT (in a verbal sense!) Buffy is spoiled? This can't be good! Share time is not really going to well for the two of them. Oz is a great guy, will do anything for Willow. (who seems to have issues of her own with the sleeping arrangements. More commandos! Oz is right again, no one does deserve mime! That bench had it coming to it! Wow, what a great way to highlight the annoyance of others! Even I'm sick of this song now! More freaky nightmares. Now Kathy is bitching to Willow who seems to be put into a corner. She is moving into Buffy's life. I TOLD YOU KATHY WAS EVIL!!!!!!! THE CELINE DION POSTER!!!! IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!!!!

Buffy has lost it! and the only way to stop it is to tie her up. Willow why are you trying to reason with someone who is clearly unstable. It seems that Oz and Xander failed rope tying at school. CAT FIGHT CAT FIGHT! Surprise Surprise Kathy is evil. I called it when I first saw it. Not Buffy's favorite sweater. Good thing Buffy has friends watching her back. Bye Bye Kathy, and Willow moves in. Wonder if "Dingoes ate my baby" will ever play a gig in Darwin?

What a fun episode, the whole dream sequence parts were a little too far in the horror side of things. But it was well directed and other than the dodgy make up the story was great!

The Harsh Light of Day

Back at the Bronz, you'd think they would of found a new hang out by now. Also if they are that close to the Bronz why are they boarding at college? Willow? Lusty wrong feelings? that is not the sweet innocent girl we knew from the first season. Well Harmony the really really annoying chick from high school is back and she has taken a bite out of Willow. Will we now see the return of Willvamp? I hope so!

Nope, Thankfully Oz was there to save the day. Well Buffy's hobbies, um I don't know. See today the dark and brooding guys I guess are called the EMO guy.  Do we have to live for today or is there a reason to live for not tomorrow. This Parker guy is smooth, I should take notes! The Alphabet what a crazy system. Anya is back with a new look and the same bad attitude. It seems that Anya is not waiting for things to happen seeing she is a 1000 year old demon stuck in teenagers body. I am going to enjoy this character the potential is endless!

ALRIGHT SPIKE IS BACK!!!!! HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!

He has a new focus and a new plan, and a new pain in the butt girlfriend (Bring back Drusilla!). Does anyone at an American university study? Ever? So much for not letting anyone know that your here Spike. Dru left spike for a fungus demon! Poor Spike! Anya does scrub up nicely for a 1000 year old chick! Um ok that is taking things really fast (not that I think Xander is protesting!).

So Spike is looking for the Gem of Amara, which I wouldn't know what that was for if it wasn't someone who happen to SPOIL it for me only yesterday!!! I'm to blame at the end of the day. Parker is a History Buff, which I think is cool! He is a bit of a smooth talker also. Is it me or is there really a lot of hankey pankey in this episode? Buffy's post Angel bow. Anya's plan hasn't seemed to work out how she thought it would. Well Spike I love syphilis more than a person like Harmony. Typical females bragging about their conquests.  Spike has seemingly found what he has been looking for as Buffy mopes around the phone waiting for Parker to call. Spike has found the gem which seems to make him impervious to all vampire weakness!

How dare Giles have a tv? what could he be thinking? Parker is an jerk who used the sob story to get into Buffy's pants. What a jerk. Not only has he totally taken Buffy's dignity but he also made her apologies? People like that really really annoy me!!!!!! Just when Buffy is at her lowest emotional depths who happens to show up in the middle of the day? none other than the last person she would expect in Spike! I can see the adds now, "The Gem of Amara, the official sponsor of me killing you!" PLEASE KILL HARMONY NOW!!! I'm sure James Masters is finally enjoying shooting a scene in this show in daylight. Buffy gets the ring off Spike and decides to pass it on to Angel who is in his own show now. It is a hard reality that Buffy is facing, she has now slept with two guys and both of them turned on her. (although Angel was not his fault) Parker is just a predatory monster who thinks it's ok to play with peoples emotions. (He is a poop head Willow I agree!) Good thing Willow is there to be the voice of reason. What would Buffy be without her?

Interesting ending showing the three women who made a choice to sleep with someone for 3 different reasons all feeling the same emotions. (Other than Harmony who I could not care one iota about it was really moving.)

Another solid episode! I like the whole ring idea that makes a vampire truly immortal. Anya is a really interesting character who I hope develops more in this season (she was the focus of 2 of the 10/10 episodes from last season) and it is good to see Spike back!

8/10 - So far so good, however last season started with two mediocre episodes so that has me a little scared for the next 19 episodes to come!
